Abarth has updated its model line-up, with the introduction of two new editions.
Called the Abarth 595 Turismo and the Abarth 595 Competizione in honour of the original Abarth 595 SS of 1964, the models feature power increases, chassis upgrades, two levels of improved seats, special wheels and extras off the 500’s options list.
The 500 will remain as an entry-level Abarth product, but the company hopes the 595s will persuade more customers to buy into the brand.
Both new models feature a 160bhp version of the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the standard Abarth 500. They share colour choices, new grille designs, red brake callipers, xenon headlights, upgraded dampers, dark-tinted rear windows and 17-inch alloy wheels, albeit in different styles.
The differences lie in that the Turismo gets climate control, leather upholstery on the standard seats and ‘Alutex’ pedals, kick plates, while the £1,000 more expensive Competizione has a Monza upgraded exhaust, genuine Sabelt sports seats and cross-drilled disc brakes all round.
The basic Abarth 500 remains much the same, except for a little more standard equipment, a new colour and a slightly lowered list price.
All three Abarth 500/595 cars will be available either as a hard-top or, for £1,900 extra, a convertible. Two gearboxes are also available: a six-speed manual and the Manual Transmission Automated (MTA) gearbox, which adds £1,300.
Prices for the diminutive warm hatch will now start from £13,975, rising to a moderately eye-watering £21,925.
