Mazda celebrates two decades of roadster success with the world premiere of a 20th Anniversary special edition MX-5 at the Geneva Motor Show in March. This model will have a limited production run of just 2,000 units, will only be available in Europe and will take sports car fans back to the basics of open-top driving fun. It´s equipped with a special edition scuff plate in stainless steel with pan-European serial number (1 to 2000).

Based on the 1.8-litre soft top production roadster, this version has a special exterior styling package with chrome grille, door handles and headlight fascia; along with silver-look fog lamp frames, specific 17-inch alloy wheels and 20th Anniversary logos. It can be ordered in three colours – True Red, Crystal White Pearl and, specific for this edition, a new Aurora Blue – with matching painted decorative elements in the interior. A strut tower bar is also added to ensure a sporty, exhilarating drive.

Joining the special edition MX-5 at Geneva will be the world premiere of the All-New Mazda5. This new people carrier is especially family-friendly and will offer Europeans:

- an eye-catching design that sets it apart in the C-MAV segment,
- a new 2.0-litre DISI* petrol engine equipped with i-stop that achieves approximately 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the 2.0-litre petrol it replaces,
- enhanced Karakuri interior flexibility for up to seven people and sliding rear doors.

Mazda will also highlight its continuing environmental efforts in Geneva with the European premiere of its next-generation SKY Concept – including the SKY-G petrol and SKY-D diesel engines, and the Mazda SKY-Drive automatic transmission (AT) – set for global roll out beginning in 2011. These new products are next-generation technologies that will make a major contribution to Mazda’s published target of improving fuel economy by 30 percent by 2015.

Specifically:

- the SKY-G petrol engine will use 15 percent less fuel than the previous 2.0-litre engine, and be as efficient as today’s 2.2-litre diesel,
- the SKY-D diesel engine will improve fuel economy by 20 percent compared to Mazda’s current 2.2-litre diesel,
- the new automatic transmission will improve fuel economy by 5 percent, and be a perfect match to SKY engines with shifting feel similar to a dual clutch transmission.

The new Mazda6 facelift will also be presented for the first time worldwide at the Geneva Motor Show.

This major update enhances the strengths Mazda6 is known for and introduces:

- the new Mazda family face, and new lamp designs front and back, for sportiness and a more premium identity that can be seen at first glance,
- a powertrain line-up with six engines – including three derivatives of the 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a new 2.0-litre DISI petrol engine – all of them even more frugal and with lower emissions,
- a new five-speed automatic transmission developed especially for the new DISI petrol to ensure optimal acceleration behaviour and fuel economy.

Mazda’s press conference at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show will be held at the Mazda stand in Hall 5, on 2 March at 11:15 CET.

2011 Mazda6 Facelift Official Revealed

Posted by: eauto | Comments (0)

A new facelift version of the popular Mazda6 will have its world premiere at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. This new, upgraded version enhances the strengths of its predecessor, like driving fun and fuel efficiency; while improving interior refinement, environmental compatibility and safety performance.

The new Mazda family face is introduced, along with new head and rear lamps, for more sportiness and a clearer premium identity. Six engines will be available, including a powerful new 2.0-litre DISI petrol that uses less fuel and produces fewer emissions than the 2.0-litre engine it replaces. Its five-speed automatic transmission was adapted especially for this new petrol engine to deliver an optimal combination of acceleration and fuel economy. Updated versions of the Mazda MZR 1.8 and 2.5-litre engines round out the petrol line-up, and on the diesel side the Mazda MZR-CD 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine is available in three power derivatives – from 129 to 180 PS – all of them sporty, with improved fuel-efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

The 2011 Mazda6 facelift also features new chassis settings and several new active safety features – like a new pivoting adaptive front lighting system and hill-launch assist – that together make the Mazda6 facelift one of the safest and easiest-to-drive cars in its segment.

2011 Mazda6 facelift will go on sale in Europe this spring. It is one of three premieres that will be unveiled at Mazda’s press conference to be held at the Mazda stand in Hall 5, on 2 March.

2011 Mazda 5 breaks cover

Posted by: eauto | Comments (0)

A highlight at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March will be the world premiere of the all-new 2011 Mazda5, which is especially good at meeting the needs of European families with active lifestyles.

“Our main goal with the all-new 2011 Mazda5,” says Hideki Matsuoka, Mazda5 Programme Manager, “was to develop a new C-MAV that combines the superior environmental performance these times demand with a new expression in stylish design.”

The all-new model further evolves 2011 Mazda5’s acclaimed functionality – with double-sliding rear doors and 7-seat Karakuri flexibility – and dresses it in a suit of clothes that is as eye-catching as it is unique to the segment. This design, which also uses elements of Mazda’s “Nagare Flow” design language, is highly functional and contributes to fuel efficiency by having a particularly low drag coefficient, and optimal lift and air-swirl characteristics.

The all-new 2011 Mazda5 is fitted with a newly-developed 2.0-litre DISI petrol engine equipped with i-stop, and a six-speed manual transmission with gear ratios specific to this version.

This new direct-injection petrol offers linear and smooth performance characteristics and is fun to drive. It is also one of the most frugal and clean C-MAVs on the market, achieving approximately 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the 2.0-litre petrol it replaces. The gasoline line-up features a 1.8-litre engine with a six-speed manual transmission as well.

The all-new 2011 Mazda5 will go on sale in Europe this fall. It is one of three premieres that will be unveiled at Mazda’s press conference to be held at the Mazda stand in Hall 5, on 2 March.

2010 Mazda3 1.6 Tamura Pricing Announced

Posted by: eauto | Comments (0)
2010 Mazda3 1.6 Tamura

2010 Mazda3 1.6 Tamura

Following on from the success of the Mazda2 and Mazda6 Tamura special editions in early 2009, Mazda has introduced a new 1.6 Tamura hatchback to its Mazda3 line-up from 1 February 2010 to offer customers even greater ‘added value’.

Based on the already generously equipped TS model, the new Tamura features the addition of a Sports styling kit (with sports front grille, side skirts and sports bumpers), larger 17-inch alloy wheels with low-profile 205/50 R17 tyres, front fog lamps, special badging and free metallic paint – all for an on-the-road price of £14,995. In addition, 0% APR* or low rate finance is available for all Mazda3 buyers, including the new Tamura model, until 31 March 2010.

Like its sister cars in the Mazda3 range for 2010, the new Tamura model has a fresh bodystyle that portrays a more powerful and emotional design, with a richer expression and a more dynamic stance. In many ways the all-new Mazda3 is a ‘baby Mazda6’ bringing the elegant excitement of that model’s distinctive lines to the C-segment.

“The new Mazda3 Tamura will bring extra appeal to a broader range of customers, including younger drivers, with its unique sports styling and great value for money,” comments Mark Cameron, Sales and Marketing Director, Mazda UK. “The Mazda3 Tamura brings the sophistication, style, technology and refinement of the Mazda6 to the compact family car market.”

The new Mazda3 Tamura’s bold shape has lowered aerodynamic drag to a class-leading Cd0.30 – the improved aerodynamics and retuned powertrain resulting in significant reductions in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. The 1.6-litre petrol engine, which generates 105ps, is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and accelerates the Tamura to 62mph in a brisk 12.2 seconds. The CO2 output has been cut to 149g/km (from 162g/km on the previous generation 1.6 models) and the combined fuel economy figure for the new Tamura is 44.8mpg.

All new Mazda3 models are available to purchase under the new Government-backed scrappage scheme, with an increased Mazda Allowance of £2,000, in addition to the £1,000 Government contribution – so Mazda3 Tamura ownership can start at just £11,995. Mazda UK is supporting the scrappage scheme by offering two special finance deals to ‘scrappage sales’ customers.

Adding to the sporty styling cues of the exterior, the Mazda3 Tamura has numerous features as standard including: remote central locking, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, welcome mode lighting, a leather steering wheel with audio controls, an MP3 compatible audio system with six speakers and auxiliary (AUX) jack input, as well as power folding mirrors and electric front and rear windows.

Safety is paramount on all-new Mazda3 with a host of equipment that includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and a Traction Control System (TCS), six airbags and an Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS) System standard on all models. This new ESS system automatically activates the hazard warning lights at cruising speeds when the ABS sensors detect emergency braking.

A choice of four body colours for the Mazda3 Tamura is available – including one new metallic (Aluminium Silver Metallic) two regular Mica colours (Black Mica and Velocity Red Mica), and the unique-to-Tamura Gunmetal Blue Mica, offered on just 255 examples of the 850 Mazda3 Tamura models being manufactured for the UK market.

Mazda2 and Mazda6 Tamura Special Edition models are also available from £11,015 (OTR) and £17,570 (OTR) respectively. The Mazda2 Tamura is based on the popular Mazda2 1.3-litre 86ps model with the addition of a Sports Styling Pack (including front and rear sports bumpers, 2-bar sports grille, side skirts and rear spoiler), new four cylinder headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, special ‘Tamura’ badging and free metallic paint.

The Mazda6 Tamura, based on the Mazda6 2.0 5dr TS model, also boasts a Sports Styling Pack (including front and rear sports bumpers, side skirts and rear spoiler), plus privacy glass, clear rear light bezels, unique 18-inch alloy wheels and special ‘Tamura’ badging. Inside, this Tamura features alloy pedals and branded Tamura floor mats.

Mazda RX-Z Concept by Andrus Ciprian

Posted by: eauto | Comments (0)

The Mazda RX-Z concept is a proposal for a 2+2 sports coupe to replace the aging Mazda RX-8. The design was conceived by Andrus Ciprian, a design student from Romania whose previous work includes the Dacia MC concept. Like the MC the RX-Z concept was created using the 3d modeling program 3D Studio Max, and rendered with the help of Mental Ray.

The RX-Z was developed as Ciprian puts it; “as a link between fossil fuel cars and more ecological ones.” To achieve this the proposed drivetrain for the concept includes a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine up front - which replaces the notoriously thirsty rotary engine from the RX-8. And a pair of electric motors at the rear. Under normal conditions the RX-Z would be driven solely by the diesel engine. But at low speeds around town the electric drive can be used on its own for emission free motoring. At higher speeds the electric motors work in conjunction with the V6 engine to provide a boost function. A start/stop technology which is integrated into the engine further increases fuel efficiency.

Like the RX-8 the RX-Z concept is equipped with four doors. The rear doors are half-sized and hinged at the rear. This helps to disguise them into the bodywork and reduce their impact on the flowing lines of the car.

One of the more unusual features of the Mazda RX-Z concept is the rear light panel. In the middle is a display screen which can light up with any text written by the driver. Presumably you can only ‘write’ on the back of your car when stopped, otherwise this would be one surefire way of either getting in a crash or getting in trouble!

In an economy where value-for-dollar is more important than ever, the all-new 2010 MAZDA3 proves that good things do come in small packages - and can be affordable too. And with fuel economy up to 25/33 mpg (city/highway) - a 10 percent improvement in highway fuel economy - the MAZDA3 i Touring costs less at the pump too.

And, like all Mazdas, the new 2.5-liter engine has plenty of Zoom-Zoom - a must for an eco-conscious driving enthusiast. The 2.5-liter engine pushes out 167 horsepower and 168 lb.-ft. of torque - 13 more horsepower and 18 more lb.-ft. of torque than the 2.3-liter it replaces - yet maintains a competitive fuel economy of 22/29 (city/highway).

New packages for the 2010 model include a Technology package and the Moonroof/six CD changer/BOSE ® Audio package.

Available on both s models, the Technology package includes advanced keyless entry, push-button start, a compact full-color navigation system, Sirius satellite radio with six months of free service and a perimeter alarm - all for $1,195.

The Moonroof/six CD changer/ BOSE® Audio package is available on the MAZDA3 i Touring and both s models. Priced at just $1,395, the Moonroof/six CD changer/ BOSE® Audio package is a must for audiophiles.

Offering more features, functionality, and power than a comparably equipped outgoing 2009 model, when it’s all said and done, a fully loaded 2010 MAZDA3 s Grand Touring 4-door is $240 less.
