2011 Toyota Sienna Auto Access Seat Pricing Announced
Posted by: | CommentsToyota today announced manufacturers suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2011 Sienna models equipped with the new Auto Access Seat.
Designed for any passenger who may need assistance getting in and out of a vehicle, the innovative, industry-first factory installed Sienna Auto Access Seat (AAS) is now available exclusively on the LE and XLE V6 Sienna grades. The base MSRP for the Sienna LE with AAS is $35,135, and the Sienna XLE with AAS is $39,445.
The factory-installed Auto Access Seat features a one-touch operation and benefits from the all-new Sienna’s spacious interior and wide-opening sliding doors. A seat-mounted ingress/egress switch and a wireless remote control allows for easy and flexible seat operation. The seat rotates 90 degrees and can be lowered to within 19 inches of the ground to further facilitate easier passenger transfers at the exact height required.
Once inside, the Auto Access Seat occupant can utilize reclining and slide switches located on both sides of the seat. This allows operation of up to four inches of slide travel and reclining of up to 24 degrees. The auto-recline feature also allows for safe head clearance through the door frame during entry and exit.
Sienna AAS models will go on sale in mid-March. Consumers can contact their local Toyota dealer to place orders. Further information on the new Sienna AAS models can be found on YouTube by searching “Sienna Auto Access Seat.” Additional information will be available on the Toyota Mobility Website (www.toyotamobility.com) beginning in April.
Toyota MSRPs do not include a delivery, processing and handling (DPH) fee of $750 for Avalon and $800 for the Sienna AAS. The DPH fee for vehicles distributed by Southeast Toyota (SET) and Gulf States Toyota (GST) may vary.
2011 Toyota Avalon Pricing Announced
Posted by: | CommentsToyota today announced manufacturers suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the redesigned 2011 Avalon sedan.
The base MSRP for the entry-level Avalon grade remains unchanged from the 2010 base Avalon XLS at $32,245, while gaining a significant amount of new standard equipment, reflecting an excellent value. The MSRP for the Avalon Limited will be $35,485, an increase of $200, or 0.6 percent, while also receiving an array of new standard features over the 2010 model. Both Avalon grades will go on sale in mid-March.
Simplifying the customer ordering process, the number of Avalon model grades has been reduced from three to two, while the amount of standard equipment has increased, reducing the number of options and packages by 40 percent.
For 2011, Avalon receives distinctive new exterior styling and a restyled interior rich with premium touch points and practical new technologies. The exterior has a wider, more substantial grille that ties into state-of-the-art projector headlamps. The new headlamps and taillamps utilize light pipes for the first time on a Toyota vehicle to create a signature, night-time appearance. The front fog lamps, now integrated into a trapezoidal front bumper, provide a wider angle of illumination. New 17-inch wheels on the Limited grade feature a 10-spoke design with a mirror finish.
A new Avalon interior features a contemporary style that remains spacious and elegant, while adding thoughtfully integrated amenities, coordinated colors and updated wood-grain materials.
A comprehensive infusion of technology was designed into the new interior to ensure enhanced function and connectivity. New standard equipment includes Bluetooth hands-free phone and music streaming to the audio system from a compatible device, XM® satellite radio (subscription required), and both USB and 1/8-inch auxiliary connections for iPod® and other audio devices. Each of the three available audio systems can control iPods seamlessly using switches located on the steering wheel and display track information stored in the device.
The Avalon grade’s standard nine-speaker system offers exceptional sound quality, while the Limited grade features a standard 12-speaker, 660-watt JBL Premium Synthesis audio system with enhanced two-coil sub-woofer. The system uses 12 speakers and a 12-channel digital amplifier to deliver profoundly rich, full sound to all seats of the vehicle.
Additional standard equipment on the Limited grade includes enlarged perforated leather seats and seatbacks, driver and passenger eight-way power with lumbar support, driver’s seat and outside mirror memory systems, driver’s seat cushion extension, heated and ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, Smart Key System with push button start, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, and power rear sunshade.
All Avalon models continue to come standard with a DOHC 3.5-liter V6 with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) mated to an electronically-controlled six-speed transmission with sequential shift, generating 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm. Avalon’s expected EPA-estimated mileage ratings of 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway are as good as or better than any other V6 engine in the segment. Avalon is rated as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).
The redesigned Avalon continues to feature Toyota’s standard Star Safety System that includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, and TRAC traction control system. Avalon also receives a redesigned accelerator pedal assembly and a brake override system. This braking system enhancement will automatically reduce engine power when the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are applied simultaneously under certain driving conditions. Seven airbags, including a front knee bag for the driver, and front side curtain airbags for both rows, are also standard.
Restyled at Calty Design Research Centers in California and Michigan and engineered at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, the Avalon will continue to be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK).
2010 Toyota Passo / Daihatsu Boon / Perodua Myvi Official Revealed
Posted by: | CommentsVehicle Comes in Two Model Styles: ‘Passo’ and ‘Passo + Hana’
Tokyo-TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces the launch in Japan today of the redesigned “Passo” compact hatchback.
The second-generation Passo further refines the highly maneuverable compact body, spacious interior and class leading1 fuel efficiency and environmental performance of the popular first-generation Passo released in June 2004, with the new vehicle embodying input, from the planning stage, from female consumers in Japan. This development has taken the Passo to the next level and demonstrates TMC’s ongoing efforts to design vehicles to meet consumer needs.
The vehicle comes in two distinct model styles: the simple and unpretentious “Passo”, which offers a sense reassurance and familiarity, and the “Passo + Hana”, which imbues an understated glamour for a strong impression. These unique designs, along with 11 available body colors, create variety that enables vehicle selection ideally suited to express individuality. Thanks to efforts made to enhance ease-of-operation, utility and drivability, including the redesign of the front pillars for better visibility and the creation of more storage space within easy reach of the driver, the vehicle is more appealing than ever-especially with its highly affordable price, which starts at 1 million yen.
The new Passo, like its predecessor, was developed in conjunction with Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.

The compact body (length: 3,640 mm [Passo + Hana: 3,650 mm]; width: 1,665 mm; height: 1,535 mm) seats five adults comfortably and has a roomy luggage space ideal for everyday use.
The adoption of a column shift allows easy movement between the front seats, while optimal seat placement secures ample legroom for the rear seats.
The shape of the front pillars, 10-mm-higher hip point and a lowered beltline combine to improve driver visibility.
In addition to a minimal turning radius of 4.3 m (when using 13-inch tires), ease-of-driving has been enhanced with a reverse-linked side-view mirror on the front-passenger side (standard on the 1.3G and L package vehicles) and the rearview monitor (available as a manufacturer’s option on all models except the V package), both of which allow a clear view of parking space lines.
Utility
Vehicle design is aimed at everyday use, thus features a handy, retractable hook for hanging shopping bags placed within easy reach of the driver, a multi-purpose storage tray (equipped with light for visibility at night) and a wide storage shelf.
Easily to arrange seating, including rear-seat cushions that can be repositioned to create a flat space that extends to the back of the front seats, expand the potential uses of the interior space.
A Smart Entry & Start System allows the front doors to be locked and unlocked with only a light touch on the door handle. The system also features a push-button for starting and stopping the engine.
An automatic air-conditioning system includes a push-button function to filter out pollen, dust and other impurities from the air.
Environmentally Friendly and People-friendly Functional Performance
Performance
All models adopt a continuously variable transmission (CVT), with both the 1.0-liter 1KR-FE engine and the new 1.3-liter 1NR-FE engine featuring the Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent system, thus giving a smooth, comfortable, stable ride.
Fuel efficiency has been improved with an eye to reducing CO2 emissions. The 1.0-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) gets 22.5 km/L in the traditional 10-15 test cycle outlined by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT); equivalent to 103 g/km of CO2 emissions. In the JC08 test cycle, the vehicle gets 20.8 km/L, which is equivalent to 112 g/km of CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, the 1.3-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) gets 21.0 km/L in the 10-15 test cycle, equivalent to 111 g/km of CO2 emissions.
The 1.0-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) surpasses the existing Japanese 2010 fuel efficiency standards2 by 25%, thereby meeting the new 2015 fuel efficiency standard2. The 1.3-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) exceeds the 2010 fuel efficiency standards by 15%. All vehicles in the series achieve emission levels 75% lower than the 2005 standards under the MLIT Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles.
Under the Japanese government’s taxation system introduced in April 2009 for environmentally friendly vehicles, the 1.0-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) qualifies for a 75% reduction in the automobile acquisition tax and automobile weight tax, while the 1.3-liter model (with front-wheel-drive) is eligible for a 50% reduction in the same taxes.
An Eco Driving Indicator that shows fuel-efficient vehicle operation and a button-operated driving status monitor that indicates the vehicle’s average fuel efficiency are both standard on all Passo models.
The vehicles were produced in line with TMC’s Eco-Vehicle Assessment System, an original, comprehensive, environmental impact assessment system that sets targets at the start of vehicle development to help reduce environmentally harmful factors by such means as the balanced reduction of CO2 emissions.
Review of materials, processing methods and adhesives used for interior parts reduced volatile organic compounds and sometimes-unpleasant interior odors to levels compliant with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association’s “Vehicle Cabin VOC Testing Methods (for Passenger Cars)”, which are voluntary industry standards.
Safety
The VSC & TRC system (Vehicle Stability Control & Traction Control system; available as a manufacturer’s option on all models except the V package)-created by combining the VSC system that monitors lateral traction and automatically controls engine output and distribution of braking force with the TRC system that limits wheel-spin during starting and acceleration-secures appropriate driving force and facilitates smooth acceleration.
All vehicles come equipped with SRS airbags for both the driver and front-passenger seats. SRS side airbags also provide chests protection, while SRS curtain-shield airbags aim to reduce head injuries.
Exceptional collision safety in the event of frontal, side or rear collisions is pursued through the advanced Global Outstanding Assessment body that incorporates omni-directional compatibility.
The vehicle’s body is designed to reduce head or leg injury to pedestrians in the unfortunate event of a collision.
The front seats are equipped with Active Headrests that shift to an appropriate position in the case of a rear-end collision in order to lessen stress on the neck and reduce the risk of whiplash injuries.
Welcabs: Vehicles with special factory-installed features for the disabled
Welcab Lift-up Front Passenger Seat models for both Type A and Type B vehicles feature a seat that slides down to the outside of the vehicle for easier ingress and regress. The compact design of the lift-up mechanism increases rear-seat legroom, while a seat-slide switch and reclining switch on both sides of the lift-up seat now also enable operation from the driver’s seat. The Type B vehicle comes with a motorized wheelchair storage device as a standard feature.
The 1.0-liter and 1.3-liter front-wheel-drive models qualify for a reduction in the automobile acquisition tax and automobile weight tax under the Japanese government’s taxation system for environmentally friendly vehicles.
Welcab models of the Passo will be available from April 20.

TMC intends to help foster a motorsports culture by also actively participating in grassroots motorsports events, Formula Nippon and SUPER GT in Japan, and NASCAR in the United States.
The models listed below (including GRMN and G’s concept models) are being displayed at the “Tokyo Auto Salon 2010 with NAPAC6″, one of the world’s largest customized car shows, which is being held from January 15 to 17 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.
1. The “G’s” series name is based on the “G” associated with classic Toyota sports models like the Toyota 2000GT and the Celica GT-Four.
2. A vehicle produced in limited numbers that comes with specialized features in terms of exterior and interior design and driving performance. In Japan, such modified vehicles must be inspected directly by license plate-issuing authorities (whereas conventional vehicles can be registered upon submission of required documentation only).
3. A project of the GAZOO.com website that involves a team of test drivers (led by TMC’s master test driver Hiromu Naruse) who participate in races, develop automobiles, and support motorsports activities.
4. A limited-edition car developed in close conjunction with master test driver Hiromu Naruse; the 100 cars that went on sale in August of last year sold out within one week.
5. An in-house production system premised on vehicle customization; it involves specialized parts (such as seats and suspension) being attached on the base-vehicle production line, prior to work performed at customization plants.
6. Nippon Auto Parts Aftermarket Committee.
2010 Toyota iQ Surveillance car breaks cover
Posted by: | CommentsA supplier of traffic-surveillance cars to local authorities and police forces has started trialling Toyota iQs, with a view to replacing its current small-car fleet.
Capacity and reliability of the small three-door hatchbacks are key attractions for Traffic Enforcement Systems, of Pulloxhill in Bedfordshire. At present TES operates 45 Smart Cars, which are hired out to bodies responsible for traffic regulation and community safety. The vehicles are fitted with a range of mobile CCTV and GPS systems, and specialist equipment such as thermal-imaging cameras or numberplate-readers may also be fitted.
In search of a small car with greater payload and space, TES has now bought and fitted out a Toyota iQ 1.0-litre automatic as a customer demonstrator, and has just ordered a second vehicle. “We’re getting a lot of good reviews at the moment,” says Managing Director Clive Paul. “Manchester Police, for example, are very keen to take the prototype for a full trial, and if they like it they’ll switch to iQs. We have also shown it to Devon & Cornwall Police, who were very impressed and have been in contact with TES to arrange a long-term trial.”
“The most important thing about the iQ is that it can carry more weight,” says Mr Paul. “At present, when carrying all the equipment and two operators we’re right on the borderline. We‘ve been having to make everything with aluminium to reduce weight, which adds substantially to our costs.”
The iQ solves this problem, as its gross vehicle weight is 150kg higher at 1200kg. “Manchester Police say they like the idea of being able to carry two operators, because with all their body armour and so on, at present they can carry only one. Police officers also tend to be over 6ft tall, so they can often use only women officers in the cars. The iQ has loads more space than the Smart Car.”
Weight and space are not the only considerations. “It’s very important that we offer manoeuvrable small cars that can enforce traffic regulations without being an obstruction themselves,” says Mr Paul. “Also, councils are extremely eco-conscious.” The Toyota iQ 1.0-litre with multidrive returns 60mpg combined, with CO2 emissions of 110g/km.
“We specify automatics because we have a lithium-ion battery in the back powered from the alternator, and the automatic has a larger alternator,” explains Mr Paul.
Surveillance and other equipment specified by customers can weigh around 60kg, and installation involves stripping out the car’s interior, including back seats, running in cabling, adding reinforcement for the roof-mast and installing a compressor. Fitting-out, which can take up to five weeks, is carried out at TES’s Pulloxhill base, as is routine servicing and maintenance of equipment. Maintenance and servicing of vehicles would be undertaken by Toyota.
With the reliability of modern camera systems, Clive Paul says that TES needs a car to match, to ensure that costly downtime is minimised. “Toyota has the reputation for reliability we need,” he says. TES replaces its vehicles over two to three years, with 10,000 as the standard mileage.
